Large sites bring large crews. Photo from Pexels.
Group accommodation for contractors works best as one or two whole houses close together, rather than a block of hotel rooms. Our largest homes sleep seven. Pairing a large house with a flat nearby houses crews of 10 to 11 from about £280 to £315 a night. Ten hotel rooms at £80 would cost £800.

What is the best way to house a large crew of contractors?
The best way to house a large crew is one large house for the core team, plus a flat or second house within a few minutes’ drive for the rest. Everyone keeps a proper bed and the crew still leaves for site together.
Very large single houses are rare in most towns. When they exist, they are often holiday homes priced for weekends, with pools and hot tubs that a crew does not need. Two ordinary homes on neighbouring streets usually cost less and give more bathrooms per person.
Keeping everyone close to site also cuts driving time at the end of a long shift. The Health and Safety Executive says fatigue has been implicated in 20% of accidents on major roads. A base 10 minutes from site is safer than a cheaper one 45 minutes away.
How many contractors can stay in one Esho Stays home?
One Esho Stays home takes up to seven contractors, in our four-bedroom house in Gloucester or our five-bedroom house in Cirencester. For bigger crews, these combinations keep everyone close together.

Should you count beds or bedrooms for a crew?
Count bedrooms, then bathrooms. A listing that sleeps eight may only have three bedrooms, which means adults sharing rooms for weeks at a time.
Most crews we host prefer one person per bedroom on jobs longer than a week. Couples or relatives may share, and some apprentices are happy in a twin. Ask the crew before you book, because sharing is the most common source of complaints on long jobs.
Bathrooms matter at 6am. As a rough guide, we suggest no more than three people per bathroom when everyone starts at the same time. That is why our largest houses have three bathrooms, and why every bedroom in the Coventry five-bedroom house has its own shower room.

How do you run group accommodation for a crew?
Run group accommodation through one named lead on the crew, who is our contact for arrivals, problems and changes. The company books and pays, and the lead handles the day to day.

Tips from our team for booking big crews
Book the big house firstOur seven-bed houses go first. Secure the large home as soon as the contract is signed, then add smaller homes as the crew list firms up.
Give supervisors the smaller homeSite managers and engineers often have calls and paperwork in the evening. A two-bedroom flat near the main house gives them a quieter space.

Frequently asked questions
What is the largest crew one Esho Stays home can take?
Seven people. Our four-bedroom house in Gloucester and our five-bedroom house in Cirencester each have seven beds and three bathrooms. For crews larger than seven, we book a second home nearby, so everyone stays in the same town and can leave for site together in the morning.
Can we book several homes on one invoice?
Yes. Companies booking more than one home get one point of contact and straightforward invoicing for the whole crew. Tell us how you want the invoice set out, for example by home, by week or by project code, and we will match it to your accounts process.
Are the homes suitable for apprentices and young workers?
Yes, our homes suit mixed crews, including apprentices. The same house rules apply to everyone: no smoking and no parties. We recommend naming one experienced crew lead as our contact, and agreeing room allocation before arrival so younger workers are not left sharing by default.
How far apart are the homes in a combination booking?
The combinations we suggest are in the same town. In Gloucester, several of our homes are close to Gloucestershire Royal Hospital and Kingsholm. In Cirencester and Coventry, the homes are a short drive apart. We tell you the exact distance between homes when we send the quote.
