On contractor accommodation vs hotel costs, a whole serviced house wins for most crews of two or more staying longer than three nights. Four hotel rooms at £80 cost £320 a night. A four-bedroom serviced house costs from £195, and the crew gets a kitchen, laundry and parking. A hotel still wins for one person on a one or two night job.

Is contractor accommodation cheaper than a hotel?
Contractor accommodation is cheaper than a hotel once a crew needs more than one room, because you pay for the whole property instead of each bed. The bigger the crew and the longer the job, the bigger the gap.
A budget or mid-range hotel near a regional town centre often charges around £80 a room. That is the figure we use in our own contractor stays comparison. Here is how it plays out against our starting rates:
| Crew size | Hotel rooms / night | Esho Stays home | Home / night | Saving over 30 nights |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | £80 | 1-bed annex, Gloucester | £80 | £0 |
| 2 | £160 | 2-bed flat, Cirencester or Gloucester | £100 | £1,800 |
| 3 | £240 | 3-bed house, Cirencester | £130 | £3,300 |
| 4 | £320 | 4-bed house, Gloucester | £195 | £3,750 |
| 5 | £400 | 5-bed en-suite house, Coventry | £160 | £7,200 |
Esho Stays starting rates as listed on eshostays.com in October 2026. Hotel figure is an example rate of £80 per room per night.

How does a serviced house compare with a hotel for a crew?
A serviced house gives a crew more space, a kitchen, a washing machine and parking. A hotel gives a reception desk, daily room cleaning and breakfast on site.
| What you get | Hotel rooms | Serviced contractor house |
|---|---|---|
| Space | One room each | Own bedroom plus shared living and dining room |
| Food | Breakfast, then eating out | Full kitchen for meals and packed lunches |
| Laundry | Paid service, or a launderette | Washing machine in the house |
| Parking | Often charged per night in towns | Drive or on-street at most of our homes |
| Cleaning | Daily | Weekly or fortnightly on longer stays |
| Check-in | Reception, sometimes 24 hours | Self check-in from 3pm with a code or lockbox |
| Keeping the crew together | Rooms on different floors | One address, one plan for the morning |

What hidden costs come with hotel stays for contractors?
The biggest hidden costs of hotel stays for contractors are food, laundry and parking. None of them appear in the room rate, and all of them grow with every extra night.
- Evening meals. HMRC’s benchmark scale rates allow up to £25 a day for a 15-hour day that runs past 8pm. A crew of four eating out every night can spend close to that.
- Laundry. Work clothes and hi-vis need washing at least weekly. Hotel laundry or a launderette adds cost and time.
- Parking. City hotels often charge per vehicle per night, and many hotel car parks have height barriers that stop high-roof vans.
- Lost time. A crew split across hotel floors takes longer to get moving at 6am than one that shares a kitchen.
When is a hotel the better choice for contractors?
A hotel is the better choice for one person on a short job, or for a booking made the same day. It also makes sense when the site is next to a hotel with free parking.
One or two nightsServiced homes have a cleaning cost behind every stay, so a hotel is often simpler for a quick visit.
Arrivals after midnight with no noticeA 24-hour reception helps if plans change at the last minute. Our self check-in works late, but we need the booking first.
Daily room cleaning matters to youIf the client or the crew expects fresh towels every day, a hotel does that by default. We clean weekly or fortnightly on long stays.
For anything longer than a few nights with two or more people, the house usually wins on cost and comfort.

Frequently asked questions
Is serviced accommodation cheaper than a hotel for one contractor?
Not always. For one person, our cheapest home in Gloucester starts at £80 a night, about the same as a mid-range hotel room. The serviced home still saves on food and laundry over a long job, but for one or two nights a hotel is often simpler and costs much the same.
Do serviced houses for contractors include bills?
Yes. Every Esho Stays home includes Wi-Fi, utilities, fresh linen and towels in the nightly price. There are no meters to top up and no separate energy bills, even on stays of several months. Longer stays also include weekly or fortnightly cleaning, which we agree when you book.
Can each person still have their own room?
Yes. Our homes have separate bedrooms, so most crews give each person their own room. The five-bedroom house in Coventry also has an en-suite shower room for every bedroom. Where a home has more beds than bedrooms, you can choose whether anyone shares.
Is there a minimum stay for contractor accommodation?
Minimum stays vary by home and date, and are shown when you check availability. For short jobs of one or two nights, ask us directly by phone or WhatsApp and we will tell you which homes are free. Most contractor bookings with us run from one week to several months.
